Marta Wajdzik, born in 2001, is a Polish alto and soprano saxophonist and composer.
She is an active musician, performing both as a leader and a sideman.

As a Leader:
At the age of 18, Marta launched her debut electro-acoustic project, the Marta Wajdzik Quartet, collaborating with renowned Polish jazz musicians Paweł Tomaszewski, Robert Kubiszyn, and Paweł Dobrowolski. Their album My Planet (2020) acheived significant success. With this ensemble, Marta has performed across Poland, Germany, Ukraine, and Israel, showcasing her work at prominent festivals including LOTOS Jazz Festival Bielska Zadymka Jazzowa, Jazz Nad Odrą, Sopot Jazz Festival, Jazz Juniors, Jazzonalia, Jazz w Centrum Spotkania Kultur w Lublinie, Ełk Jazz Night, Junior Młyn Jazz Festival, Enter Music Festival, Women in Jazz Festival (DE), Leopolis Jazz Fest (UA), Jazztage Görlitz (DE), Polish Jazz in TLV (IL), Jazz Around Festival, and many more.

Since 2022, she has performed with another of her bands, Marta Wajdzik Experiment, featuring some of Poland’s most distinguished musicians – Szymon Mika, Michał Jakubczak, Michał Aftyka and Dawid Fortuna.

In 2026, while studying in Basel, Switzerland, she formed a project Concordia, featuring harpist Esther Severac, pianist Iannis Obiols, double bassist Nadav Erlich, and drummer Iago Fernandez.

As a sideman:
She has shared the stage with artists including Kris Davis, Nasheet Waits, Pablo Held, Philip Dizack, Robert Landfermann, Ole Morten Vagan, Felix Pastorius, Manu Katché, Billy Kilson, Steve Rodby, Paul Wertico, Luca Sisera, and Leszek Możdżer, Maciej Obara, Dominik Wania, to name a few.

Since 2025, she has been a member of the band Re:Calamari, alongside Oliver Lutz, Pablo Held, and Peter Gall.

Education:
In 2026, she graduated Master’s degree in Jazz Performance at FHNW Musik-Akademie Basel, where she studied under the guidance of such artists as Ambrose Akinmusire, Mark Turner, Tineke Postma, to name a few.

In 2023/2024, Marta participated in the Focusyear program in Basel, Switzerland, collaborating with prominent figures such as Lionel Loueke, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Kris Davis, and Kendrick Scott.

She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Composition and Arrangement at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice in 2023.

Awards and Recognition:
Since 2023 Marta is a Yamaha Artist.
She was awarded the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage scholarship for students in 2022 and the “Młoda Polska” scholarship In 2023.
She has garnered acclaim for her contributions to both classical and jazz music.

Her achievements include:

• Nomination for the FRYDERYK Award for Jazz Phonographic Debut of the Year (2021)
• Winner of the Jazz Top poll by Jazz Forum, The European Jazz Magazine, as The Hope of the Year (2020 & 2021)
• Grand Prix at the 3rd Junior Młyn Jazz Festival Competitions (2019).
• First place in the solo instrumental category at the Blue Note Poznań Competition (2019)
• First place at the Tarnów Jazz Contest (2017)
• Honorable mention for best soloist at the National Jazz Band Contest in the Artistic Education Center in Warsaw (2017)
• Best instrumentalist at the 20th Young Jazz And Blues Bands Competition in Gdynia (2017)
